1.Methodology in the EFL ClassroomFor teachers who are new to the profession or who have no formal training and wish to build on their experience to enhance their language awareness, teaching skills and methodology Course OutlineNeeds Analysis An assessment of the teachers' and students' needs in the current teaching situation, involving material available, language awareness, methodology, and factors affecting learning. Overview of Language Learning Theories Insights into the theories of language learning which have influenced the present day multi-syllabus approach. Language Awareness A study of the relationship between form and function throughout the course, including the main differences between Trinidad Creole and Standard English. Classroom Management & Lesson Planning How to use and organize the classroom, the students, materials etc. to maximize learning and interaction. Introduction to lesson planning. Introducing New Language: Methods of presenting new language items, practice and production to ensure understanding and communication. Introducing Skills Ways of teaching the four language skills through a communicative approach using both commercial and authentic materials.
Lesson Planning Revisited An in depth analysis of the elements which make a good, working plan for language and skills lessons. Teaching Pronunciation Using the phonetic alphabet. Ways of teaching Stress and Intonation in relation to meaning.
