Asa Wright Nature Centre and Lodge
The Asa Wright Nature Centre is nestled in the rain forrest and it is an excellent place to observe the wildlife in Trinidad. At this centre you can see a diverse array of plants, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and butterflies.
Trinidad and Tobago is situated just North of Venezuela and it is believed to have once been part of South America. It is for this reason it has such a rich abundance of wild life, unparalled in the Caribbean. Trinidad's landscape is varied with rolling mountains and valleys, and beaches on the coast. Many of the mountain areas in Trinidad are covered with rainforest. The climate is friendly to the naturalists who would like to observe during either of Trinidad's two seasons. Emperor Valley Zoo first opened its gates in 1952. The Zoo has expanded over the years and has a large variety of animals, birds and reptiles. The Zoo has put them is a semi-naturalistic environment, to foster the atmosphere of their real habitat. This is a great place for naturalists and for parents wishing to show their children the wild life of Trinidad and Tobago in a fun, relaxing atmosphere. For more information you can go to their website: Link to Emperor Valley Zoo Point-A-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust Point-A-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust is a national, none profit organization. It was founded in order to introduce environmental education and public awareness to the public of Trinidad and Tobago. The trust among other things breeds birds, re-introduces endagered birds and lobbies for improved environmental policies. The wild fowl trust has been open for 31 years as a wild life reserve. The reserve comprises of two lakes and 25 hectares of land. Inside the 25 hectares there is Petrochemical Complex. The complex has been set up in such a way as not to interfere with the natural habitat. Visitors can relax, enjoy bird watching, photography and interpretative trails.
